Rep. Patrick Kennedy and the Cythnia McKinney double standard

Rep. Patrick Kennedy and the Cythnia McKinney double standard

May 5th, 2006

OK, Rep. Patrick Kennedy wrecked his car in an early morning accident on Capitol Hill Thursday, now we learn that Capitol Hill Police, (you know the same Police Department who asked for a grand jury investigation of the incident involving Rep. Cynthia McKinney on Capitol Hill) say supervisors stopped them from giving him (Kennedy) a sobriety test. Are there double standards on the Capitol Hill?

Wait a minute - there’s more. Two police union officials, who were not at the scene, complained that the Rhode Island congressman and son of Sen. Ted Kennedy (D), said Kennedy looked like he'd been drinking after crashing into a barrier near the Capitol building after 2:00 am in the morning.Check this out, police on the scene report that Capitol Police sergeants stopped the officers from doing a field sobriety test. Reports are that a watch commander, "ordered all of the Patrol Division Units to leave the scene and that they were taking over."

There’s more. Kennedy was then given a ride home!I guess Capitol Hill Police not only protect Congressman, but also protect their careers. I wonder why Congresswoman McKinney didn’t get the same "let’s cover the congressperson's career" treatment.

Maybe, just maybe there is something to Congresswoman McKinney's allegations of double standards and racism. Would McKinney be driven home by Capitol Hill Police in the same situation, or would she had been given a sobriety test and arrested. Hmmm…I guess her name was not Kennedy.

PS, Dont' forget about March 26, 2000 and the videotape that captured Kennedy pushing a 58-year-old airport security guard backward and bumping the metal detector archway at Los Angeles International Airport.
